Summary

What is that magic quality makes some people instantly loved and respected? Everyone wants to be their friend (or, if single, their lover!) In business, they rise swiftly to the top of the corporate ladder。 What is their "Midas touch?"

What it boils down to is a more skillful way of dealing with people。

The author has spent her career teaching people how to communicate for success。 In her book How to Talk to Anyone (Contemporary Books, October 2003) Lowndes offers 92 easy and effective sure-fire success techniques-- she takes the reader from first meeting all the way up to sophisticated techniques used by the big winners in life。 In this information-packed book you'll find:

9 ways to make a dynamite first impression 14 ways to master small talk, "big talk," and body language 14 ways to walk and talk like a VIP or celebrity 6 ways to sound like an insider in any crowd 7 ways to establish deep subliminal rapport with anyone 9 ways to feed someone's ego (and know when NOT to!) 11 ways to make your phone a powerful communications tool 15 ways to work a party like a politician works a room 7 ways to talk with tigers and not get eaten alive
In her trademark entertaining and straight-shooting style, Leil gives the techniques catchy names so you'll remember them when you really need them, including: "Rubberneck the Room," "Be a Copyclass," "Come Hither Hands," "Bare Their Hot Button," "The Great Scorecard in the Sky," and "Play the Tombstone Game," for big success in your social life, romance, and business。

How to Talk to Anyone, which is an update of her popular book, Talking the Winner's Way (see the 5-star reviews of the latter) is based on solid research about techniques that work!

By the way, don't confuse How to Talk to Anyone with one of Leil's previous books, How to Talk to Anybody About Anything。 This one is completely different!

Love the little tricks supported by compelling examples。 Leil Lowndes also uses a reach vocabulary, while making it very unchallenging to read。 Even though I disagree with some of the tips/tricks, I still recommend the book to those, who want to become a more effective communicator。

Go through the index and choose from the topics you want to read Reading the whole book is unnecessary

An easy, straightforward read。Of course, 92 tips are a lot。 I read this book, curious to what the author had to say。 But a lot are pretty cheesy, refreshers, or things you have already been doing。 Take what you need from the book。 I would recommend if you're looking for a refresher。 But definitely, be yourself and only say things you're comfortable saying。 An easy, straightforward read。Of course, 92 tips are a lot。 I read this book, curious to what the author had to say。 But a lot are pretty cheesy, refreshers, or things you have already been doing。 Take what you need from the book。 I would recommend if you're looking for a refresher。 But definitely, be yourself and only say things you're comfortable saying。 。。。more

(Read on Headway)Not good, I feel like a lot of these tips are awkward and quite rude。。。 there is a couple good tricks don’t get me wrong but most aren’t my cup of tea。 I felt like some of the reviews here on goodreads summarised this book perfectly already so I’d read those instead of the book。。。 😂A few good tips but overall left me feeling a bit。。。 meh。

Long-winded The book is a little repetitive。 Struggled to actually read but appreciated the chapter summaries at the end of each section。

How to talk to anyone is quite different from what I expected。 From the beginning the book claims that "How to win Friends and influence people" need to be revised for our century, but to be honest what I loved about the Dale Carnegie book is that it was written 90 years ago and doesn't need any revision。 From the title I was expecting to learn How to perform a talk with anyone but the book is more of a How to improve your communication skills so people will want to talk to you, and it contains How to talk to anyone is quite different from what I expected。 From the beginning the book claims that "How to win Friends and influence people" need to be revised for our century, but to be honest what I loved about the Dale Carnegie book is that it was written 90 years ago and doesn't need any revision。 From the title I was expecting to learn How to perform a talk with anyone but the book is more of a How to improve your communication skills so people will want to talk to you, and it contains 92 of those tips。 Several of these 92 helped me and got me thinking about some of my communication skills but most of them are simply doing this instead of these kinds of tips。 。。。more

Good concepts and suggestions。 The content is a little dated, but it's not too far a leap to understand how it could be applied in today's world。 Good concepts and suggestions。 The content is a little dated, but it's not too far a leap to understand how it could be applied in today's world。 。。。more

Mark Wells

A bit long winded in places but good in its core message。

good tips!

Tacky and cheesy。 Like, brush-my-teeth-with-Brie cheesy。

It was a great book and a great guide to understand how to talk to anyone easily because I think communicating with someone is a hard task and I never knew how much our words and body language can impact someone。

I'm not sure if I learned anything new, but there were some great reminders in the 92 tricks。 Your body language, gestures, sound and firmness of your voice, and definitely eye contact and smile matter a lot when trying to create connections。 You need to put in an effort to learn about topics that might be interesting to your potential speaking partner to find ways on how to start conversations about random objects or people and make them feel deliberate。 It all makes sense。 However, I'm not sur I'm not sure if I learned anything new, but there were some great reminders in the 92 tricks。 Your body language, gestures, sound and firmness of your voice, and definitely eye contact and smile matter a lot when trying to create connections。 You need to put in an effort to learn about topics that might be interesting to your potential speaking partner to find ways on how to start conversations about random objects or people and make them feel deliberate。 It all makes sense。 However, I'm not sure if it needed all of the 92 'tricks' for these truths。 。。。more

Enjoy this book thoroughly! Big winners know not just how to present themselves well, they know how to win people’s hearts and communicate well genuinely! May seem to be very “common-sense” truths but I’m not surprised that many are not practising this! This book is written in 2003 but WOW! More than a decade and still pretty applicable!!!!

This was a very practical book。 Leil lowndes introduced 92 effective tips to building better rapport with anyone。 Each tip that the author recommends is scientifically proven from the datas or experiments that he collected。 One detail that fascinated me was the “Sticky eye technique。” Author illustrates “Don't break eye contact during the conversation, and if you must, do it slowly and reluctantly。” Because his alibi was “a study showed that people who kept their eyes in contact in the conversat This was a very practical book。 Leil lowndes introduced 92 effective tips to building better rapport with anyone。 Each tip that the author recommends is scientifically proven from the datas or experiments that he collected。 One detail that fascinated me was the “Sticky eye technique。” Author illustrates “Don't break eye contact during the conversation, and if you must, do it slowly and reluctantly。” Because his alibi was “a study showed that people who kept their eyes in contact in the conversation showed more feeling of found this and respect。”Like most authors, explicitly saying that this book is backed with concrete facts is somewhat difficult to say。 However there are a lot of gems inside the book which are logical to implement in your own life。 Authors intent is to better ourselves with proposition people skills。 The significance of the book is that we all can learn to be efficiently and effectively talk with anyone irrespective of your background。 Well, of course, not everyone can。 It depends if you put in the work。 。。。more

Has some good points in the beginning such as the “flooding smile” and “sticky eyes” as described in more detail by other reviews but I was so lost on what the author’s organization and point was afterwards。
